The social model we know is based on the achievement of quality of life and welfare standards, reflecting social development. However, this development has consequently the successive increase of society's ecological footprint. One of the greatest challenges of the 21st century will be to ensure that development does not exceed the limits of the planet. As far as mobility is concerned, the demand for transport has increased systematically, and the demand for individual transport is becoming increasingly significant, which, if not reversed, will be unsustainable.
