Virtual Idols - New targets for fandom

Description
Virtual idols like Hatsune Miku from Japan or Luo Tianyi from China are produced through CG animation, motion capture, facial recognition and other technologies, are moving towards a glamorous stage. Virtual Idols might focus for example on producing music and they have their fans and fan products. What kind of characteristics virtual idols will typically get, good voice? Nice outlook? gentle and caring character? Are virtual idols being created to simulate certain personalities or is it a way to capture something inhumane? When the boundary between virtual reality and physical reality is mixed, how do people navigate through these different realities?
