As car industry becomes slowly more and more autonomous, there is increasing need to underline safety and communication, especially in cities. In traffic, pedestrians and cyclists are currently heavily dependent on trusting the driver’s judgement and situational awareness. The cars are not very good at communicating outwards about the situation or the driver’s intentions. Considering semi-autonomous cars, how should they communicate to pedestrians and cyclists in the traffic? What kind of tools or technologies could there be to signal the intentions of the driver or the car? How might these changes affect the car design and make our roads even safer for people? In this project we want to focus on places with varying driving conditions, and regulations. In this project we look for use cases and new concepts to increase safety in Nordic cities through increased communication between pedestrians and cyclists, and cars. We are looking for people interested in car tech, electronics, visual design, accessibility, UX and audio design!
