In 2025, Glasgow will celebrate its 850th anniversary—a milestone that naturally leads us to reflect on the city’s cultural heritage. But what does "cultural heritage" really mean in today’s world, and what could it mean in the future? When we think of cultural heritage, we might picture historic buildings, monuments, and traditional practices. But in the 21st century, cultural heritage is evolving. It’s not just about the physical things we can see and touch—it can also include digital culture, like virtual and augmented realities, or modern values such as sustainability and cultural exchange. What parts of Glasgow’s culture and history should we preserve and celebrate? How can we reinterpret these in a way that makes sense for today’s world? Also, perhaps most importantly, who gets to decide what is considered cultural heritage in 2125? Is it something that belongs to everyone in the city, or are certain groups more involved in shaping and preserving it? This project will challenge you to consider the role your generation could play in shaping Glasgow’s legacy.
