Description
Public transportation is at crossroads – with changes to the technology, environment and society, public transport is set to undergo significant changes. Passengers, operators and planners alike are facing new challenges, such as rising energy prices and competition (and collaboration) from new modes of mobility. However, at the same time, there are many opportunities speeding up change towards a more convenient, accessible, adaptable and environmentally-friendly public transportation: from better intermodality, through increased information sharing, to greater awareness of sustainability.
How might public transportation be integrated with other modes of transportation to create a more efficient and reliable transportation system? What role will new technologies, such as 5G, AI, and the IoT, play in this integration? Furthermore, how might the combination of public and private transportation improve accessibility for different people, such as families, elderly people, people with disabilities, and students? How might future public transportation better serve different forms of travel, such travel between urban and rural or short and long-distance?
