Byte-powered Future
"Oura Ring" for Mental Health
Description
Smart devices have enabled measuring of personal physical condition cheaply and consistently. While the information by itself provides only limited amount of value, applications and visualisations of it enable anyone to truly act on the data. On the same note, while one's physical condition plays a major role in general wellbeing, mental health has to be equally and increasingly considered as well. The measurement of mental wellbeing is not as straightforward as physical, so there is plenty of potential to be untapped in the near future.
This project's goal is to create service concepts for measuring mental health in everyday life and to build scenarios of the impacts of widely adopted screening of mental health.
How should mental wellbeing be monitored with technological devices? How much can be understood and extrapolated from current measurement mechanics on physical condition and what do we need to learn to measure consistently? What might be the role of virtual mental health assessments as supplementary or primary method of keeping track on individual's mental health?
