Human Beings in the Modern World
Byte-powered Future
In a serious societal crisis — a prolonged power outage, a cyber-disruption of telecoms, a natural disaster — the population's need for accurate, actionable information rises exactly as the usual channels become unreliable. People fall back on whatever still works (a single radio band, intermittent cellular, word of mouth), and into that gap flows rumour. The civil-protection question is how authorities keep a trusted, consistent message reaching citizens across a patchwork of degraded channels.
The project designs an information-distribution concept that pushes one authoritative, versioned message set across multiple fallback channels (for example; cell broadcast, radio, offline-capable apps, printed-poster QR), keeps them consistent, and lets citizens verify that a message genuinely originates from the authority. The team would research how people actually seek information under disruption and prototype the authoring-and-distribution tool plus the citizen-facing verification experience.
Deliverable: A multi-channel crisis-messaging prototype with message-consistency and authenticity-verification features, plus user-research synthesis on information-seeking under disruption.
Data note: Public civil-protection guidance and simulated scenarios only.
