Byte-powered Future
Knowing where your own team members are matters constantly, and it is hardest exactly where satellite positioning fails — indoors, underground, in dense terrain, or under deliberate denial. Inertial sensing, supplemented by occasional shared reference points and peer-to-peer ranging, can maintain a relative team picture without external positioning.
The project builds a GPS-denied relative-localisation approach: fuse inertial data with peer ranging and opportunistic reference fixes to maintain each member's position relative to the team, and present a clear team-position view to a leader. The team would work with open motion datasets and simulate the ranging layer, characterising how accuracy drifts over time and how reference fixes correct it.
Deliverable: A GPS-denied team-localisation prototype with a drift-and-correction analysis and a leader team-position view.
Data note: Open motion datasets and simulated ranging only.
