Positioning-based Audio For Accessibility

Description
Accessibility and indoor navigation in public spaces are problems that have been around for ages. Shopping malls are by design maze-like buildings that try to keep you wandering around and consuming more. The problem arises if you are, for example, visually impaired. These building are not usually designed for visually impaired people and most of the navigational aid is in the visual format. Could we use positioning-based audio to improve accessibility and indoor navigation in public spaces, like shopping malls? How to implement positioning-based, automatic audio playback? What kind of accessibility use cases could we come up for it in shopping mall environment? There many “easy” ways to demo automatic audio playback tied to specific locations (for example using Apple Shortcuts), and in this project we want to focus especially on the demonstrating the tech and building use cases for it. Join us in creating helpful tech for accessibility! We are looking for students interested in software, positioning tech, accessibility design, architecture, audio tech, interior design and music.
