Social Media Movement (Glasgow)
Description
We all know that social media often keeps us glued to our screens, but what if it could actually help us get off the sofa and move more? While it might seem like scrolling through our socials doesn’t mix with staying active, recent research suggests that social media could be a powerful tool to boost physical activity: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0268401224000513#sec0175
Right now, concrete examples and use cases are still few in numbers, and that’s something that should be changed. How to transform social media from a source of mindless scrolling into a platform that promotes a more (physically) active lifestyle? What kinds of incentives, services, or interactions would actually get people moving, especially young people like you? And from a user’s perspective, what would make these motivators effective and engaging?
This project is your chance to show through tangible examples how we can turn our online habits into healthier ones.
