Human Beings in the Modern World
Byte-powered Future
Does Quality Matter?
Description
Most of consumers are starting to be more aware of sustainability issues regarding fast fashion and cheap, disposable products. But are we thinking the same way about the many applications and software we use daily? Sustainability thinking is slowly creeping to software development as it is one the fastest growing industries in regards to energy consumption. We might not think the development of software is a burden on the environment, but as AI is increasingly being used in the development, the risk is that we are wasting lots of computing power to build ”fast applications” instead of focusing on the long-term, quality applications. This is why we are interested in exploring how the younger generations think and feel about the quality and sustainability of software.
How do the younger generations think about the sustainability and long-term quality of software? How does it affect their daily lives now and in the future? What kind of information would they be interested in seeing regarding the quality or sustainability? How should the information or data be visualized for them? How might this look like, for example, in Google Play Store or Apple Store in the future?
Help us to explore how to make software development more sustainable and of higher quality. We are welcoming all the students interested in human behaviour, technology trends, psychology and usability to this project!
